What Does 1:64 Scale Mean?
1:64 is the most common scale used in diecast collecting and customisation. It’s the standard scale for Hot Wheels, Matchbox and many premium diecast brands.
A 1:64 scale model is approximately 64 times smaller than the real vehicle, which means decals need to be accurately scaled to fit doors, bonnets, roofs and body panels correctly.
Interestingly, if you scaled a Hot Wheels casting back up to full 1:1 size, it would often look quite strange. That’s because designers intentionally take small liberties with proportions, stance and body shape to make the miniature version look more realistic to the human eye.
Using incorrectly sized decals usually results in:

Applying Waterslide Decals
Never used waterslide decals before?
Good news:
It’s easier than most people think — and slightly addictive once you realise you can build entire customs around a single livery or decal sheet.
Bad news:
You will eventually launch at least one decal into another dimension while trying to position it, spending the next hour wondering where on earth it disappeared to.
For best results, we recommend:
- Applying decals to a clean gloss surface
- Using warm water & a sponge
- Sliding decals gently into position
- Sealing with clear coat after drying

Are these decals compatible with Hot Wheels?
Yes — most Hot Wheels castings use 1:64 scale sizing, which is exactly what these decals are designed around. Some castings can vary slightly depending on proportions and body shape, but they’re built specifically for diecast customs in this scale.
Do I need decal setter or softener?
Not always, but decal solutions can help waterslide decals conform more smoothly to curves, body lines and detailed castings.
For larger graphics, it can also help to cut decals into smaller sections so they conform more naturally around contours and body bulges.

Are these waterslide decals or stickers?
These are waterslide decals designed for realistic application and scale appearance.
Unlike traditional stickers, waterslide decals sit much flatter against the surface, creating a cleaner and more paint-like finish once applied and sealed correctly.
Stickers are generally peel-and-stick and can often leave a noticeable raised edge around the graphic.
Why are they called waterslide decals?
Waterslide decals get their name because water is used to activate the adhesive and release the decal from its paper backing, allowing it to slide into position on your custom build.
Are the decals already sealed with clear coat?
Yes — all MCH decals are pre-sealed with Dulux Gloss Clear Coat, so they can go straight into water without the ink running or bleeding during application.
Can I apply clear coat to the decals after application?
Yes — and in most cases, you absolutely should.
Applying a clear coat over the decals helps protect them long-term and gives the finished build a more realistic painted-on appearance. Without a protective clear layer, decals can eventually begin to lift or wear over time.
For best results, we recommend waiting at least 6 hours before applying clear coat.
Do these fit every 1:64 model perfectly?
Most decals are designed around standard 1:64 sizing, but fitment can vary slightly depending on casting shape, proportions and manufacturer styling.
